Alyssa had always done cardio training – but now, as a working mum with three children, she barely had time to herself for exercise.

For nearly 20 years, she had wanted to get in great shape – but despite running marathons in her younger years, she never managed it.

The Covid lockdown had taken her even further away from her ideal figure and fitness level – forced inactivity coupled with wine every day meant she gained weight.

Now with her 40th birthday on the horizon, she was more determined than ever to become the fit and strong woman she always wanted to be.

“I feel really glad that I invested in this journey. It was my husband who paid for my U.P. transformation as my birthday present.   

“I was telling him that it is the best birthday present he has ever given to me. I always wanted to be lean and fit but I have never been able to do it on my own.   

“So, I feel really happy that I reached the goal I always wanted to achieve since my 20s.   

“It’s never too late to start! If I can become leaner at 39, anybody can become leaner, strong, and fit at any point in their life.”  

What sparked her desire to start was seeing the impressive transformation of a friend who had been through the U.P. program.

Her body had changed in a matter of weeks, and Alyssa felt inspired to see if she could do the same.

“It started off with Instagram; I was following a friend’s F45 fitness journey before she started at U.P. Once she joined I noticed a distinct difference in her body in such a short timeframe. Comparing her F45 training to her U.P transformation, I thought to myself, ‘Wow!’

“If I joined personal training, U.P. would be definitely on a shortlist.”   

 

When the coronavirus pandemic hit, it led Alyssa into some bad lifestyle habits like many people.

Drinking more and moving less was a recipe for disaster.

“During Covid, working from home and because of the lack of the movement, I put on 4kg (9lbs). I was drinking alcohol every day because I was bored, I felt like something was missing from life because I couldn’t go out and meet my friends, plus work was really stressful.   

“So every evening, I would have one or two glasses of wine. That led to my weight gain. And, of course, I wasn’t watching my diet, despite exercising at least 30 minutes a day. So, I wasn’t seeing the results even with exercising. I wasn’t losing weight.”  

The New Year came around, and her 39th birthday was coming up, but Alyssa didn’t want to wait until she was 40 to get fit.

It was all the motivation she needed.

“It was January, and this year I was turning 39. But I didn’t want to wait until I was 40 to get fit.    

“I was really active in my 20s, doing marathon running and being active in the gym. This was the year I wanted to change. I couldn’t travel, so I thought I should spend the money on myself and do a body transformation.  

“I wanted to become lean and strong – not just skinny. Anybody can go on a diet and become skinny, but I also wanted to become strong.  

“I wanted to have defined muscles without even flexing; that was my goal. I wanted to motivate my children, especially my daughter. I want her to look up to me and remember that she has a fit mother. I wanted her to set that standard for herself, so she looks after herself.” 

Having a dedicated personal trainer by her side every step of the way was a revelation.

“My trainer is amazing. It’s all the little things that a trainer can do for you that you would never be able to do training on your own.  

“I never knew you had to take into consideration the menstrual cycle whilst training. I didn’t realise the different phases and how they affect your performance, your cravings for food and definitely your weight gain.   

“These are the things I never knew mattered. I learned to listen to my body.”  

She started to see results almost instantaneously from her personalised training and nutrition program.

For many women, the weight loss process is never linear, and it was the same for Alyssa. But having a professional partner in her corner helped her through a tricky patch on her transformation journey.

“The first month of weight loss was really fast. Then there was a period where it plateaued, and I felt demoralised. I felt depressed for a few days, but then I decided to keep on doing what I needed to do – clocking the steps, watching my sleep and diet.   

“The weight started to drop again, and I could see the results.  

“So I told my colleagues that even if your weight plateaus or doesn’t seem to drop, just continue with the key factors – watching your sleep, your diet, your exercise and your steps, and you will be fine.”

 

Over her transformation program, Alyssa lost 8kg (18lbs) and gained the muscle and strength that she had wanted for years.

It’s even caught her daughter’s attention.

“People notice that my body has changed, and I have become leaner. There was one day I was in my bathroom, just washing my face, and my daughter came in and she looked at me and she told me ‘Mummy, why does even your neck have muscles?’    

“I literally burst out laughing because it is when I noticed ‘Wow, it is actually everywhere that I look lean and fit. I don’t even have to flex my muscles to look lean’.

“My proudest achievement was being able to do a chin-up. Eventually, I hope to carry heavier weights and progress to become stronger. “
