Twelve months ago, 34-year-old Victoria resolved to get fitter and stronger so that she could finally learn to surf.
She knew her fitness was holding her back, but it wasn’t until she started a 12-week programme at Ultimate Performance Manchester that she realised how unfit she was.
Victoria says that seeing her initial ‘before’ photos shattered any illusions or denial in her mind – she wasn’t just unfit, she was seriously out of shape.
Now it wasn’t just about getting fit to surf; she knew she had to slim down and improve her long-term health too.
What started as a 12-week programme turned into a year-long journey – and even though she only trained at U.P. Manchester once a week, her results were astonishing.

She not only lost 20kg in weight and 26cm off her waistline, but transformed her diet and lifestyle, and built healthy habits for the future.

Her journey at Ultimate Performance Manchester started 12 months ago – but seeing those first photos convinced her that this she didn’t need a ‘quick fix’ but wanted to stay for the long haul to make lasting changes.
“I started here in September, and my original aim when I came here was to just get stronger and improve my fitness levels because I really wanted to learn to surf.
“Which just shows how deluded I was in the beginning about how I looked, my fitness levels, and what I was eating.
“I actually thought I was really healthy, but now I know that it wasn’t so. I look back at those original pictures, and they’re just horrific to me now, but at the time, I thought I actually didn’t look that bad, so that’s scary.”

The U.P. programme and the personal attention of her trainer worked wonders – even just training one hour a week in the U.P. Manchester gym.
Victoria, who had never really been into fitness or sports, found the journey tough, but the results were so unbelievable that she invested herself wholeheartedly in making the lifestyle changes she needed to.
“I have actually become a different person over the last year. Who I am now is not who I was a year ago, and I’ve really got to thank my trainer Rod for that because he’s been by my side the whole time – through thick and thin, even when I was being a pain.
“He’s been there motivating me, supporting me, and just generally kind of pushing me forward.”
Victoria says there is no magic pill or shortcut to success – just hard work and doing the basics with consistency.

“There are a lot of sacrifices that you need to make to make U.P. work. You know you can’t live the life that you were living before, where you were really unhealthy because you don’t realise how it’s affecting you day-to-day.”

“These are simple well-known principles of good nutrition and good lifestyle habits that we all know about, but if you don’t put it into practice, you don’t really feel it. But if you start to apply yourself daily with a goal in mind, it shows instant and constant results.”
