“I’m really happy with my results. It’s the best thing in the world – it’s what everyone has been looking for in a diet and a workout.

“I’m not scared anymore – I’m not hiding or feeling ashamed of what I look like or what I can’t do. I’m now like ‘great. If I want to do that, I’m going to do that’ and go hike a mountain.

Before joining Ultimate Performance, Brooke had been in a bad place.
Ever since the age of 15, she had struggled with her body and her weight.
“Weight was never an easy thing for me. I’ve always fluctuated and fluctuated hard in my life. I’ve had two kids, so I’ve gone up and down.
“I’ve always had this relationship with food and my body that has been a struggle.”
But the past few years as she headed towards 40, things got worse and Brooke found herself at an all-time low and mentally she was feeling ‘atrocious’.
“When I was in my happy place at work, I was really happy and positive. But I was really struggling inside because I didn’t know how to make the changes.
“I didn’t put any focus on me and I was really, really depressed and really, really sad.
“Instead of going for a walk, going to the gym or eating better, I did the opposite. I hid, and I just put on weight.
“I probably put on 5-6lbs a year for the last six years and slowly the numbers just kept increasing. It got worse and worse to the point where I thought ‘this is just my life. I’m just going to be overweight.”
Food was on Brooke’s mind around the clock. The more weight she gained the heavier the toll it took on her mood.
“I’m going to think about food 24/7 and what I look 24/7, for the rest of my life – because that’s what everyone does.
“When you’re in a depressed mode, you dwell on it.
“When you’re completely overweight, it’s all like ‘what am I going to do, go hide this?’ And the shame of eating the wrong food and the guilt of it.
“It’s a constant battle and it has been my whole life.”
It was feeling this way that motivated her to start a transformation at Ultimate Performance.
She was preparing to celebrate a milestone 40th birthday and she didn’t want every waking hour to be consumed with this guilt and shame about food.
Brooke wanted to reclaim her body and be a figure of inspiration to her student and clients.
“I’m a teacher and I wanted to be a role model.
“I’ve always looked up to these pretty amazing women – but a lot of time these amazing women were completely talented but didn’t have the body anymore that I want.
“I felt like I was falling into that category. A lot of that stuff that I used to be able to do, I couldn’t do anymore – like I was scared to jump, I was scared to roll on the floor. I was scared to stretch in front of the kids because I couldn’t do it.
“I wanted to be a role model that people would want to dance like me, move like me, think like me, but maybe also look like me.”
Starting a transformation with Ultimate Performance was a chance to change everything and turn 40 in the best shape of her life.
She was amazed by the transformation photos on U.P.’s famous results wall, but never believed for one second that a matter of months later, she would be one of them.
“I was just so out of shape and so unbelievably gone, in my eyes, that it was like ‘how could I ever put on these clothes again?’ How could I ever lose 40lbs?
“But so quickly I just gave into it. I thought ‘if I can’t do it here, where else am I going to do this?’
“I wanted to see those pictures and believe that that could be me. But I wasn’t sure if that could be me.’”
However, Brooke managed to achieve all that and more alongside her U.P. trainer, Emily, even with her crazy schedule.
Being a single working mom, she would be commuting 3 hours a day, flying across the country every week, then being there for her children, taking them to sports practices and making home-cooked meals from fresh every night.
Despite this, she was determined to make time in her life to train at U.P. Los Angeles.Three hours a week is all it took to help her make a truly remarkable transformation.
“What I love about U.P. training is that it’s so precise. I always talked about getting from point A to point B in the straightest line, and that’s really how you guys train.
“Every exercise works every single part of your body, and it’s so geared to getting the maximum results with the minimum amount of time, and that’s what’s so cool about it because it’s really like an hour and a couple of hours a week and that’s it.”
As her body changed, Brooke also saw massive improvements in other parts of her life. She usually suffered from long bouts of migraines, but regular exercise and rest did away with those almost completely.
Best of all, as she felt more in control of her body and fitness, she found a measure of peace and calm.
“Now the battle isn’t on the negative side. I’m still putting in the same time and effort into food and my body that I always did, but I’m doing the right things with it. It’s such a happy place.
“I have bought diet plans before, I bought weight loss pills and things like that and just like everything else, the reason why those fail is because you don’t have the knowledge of what’s really needed.
“Here at U.P., it is more of how to eat for the rest of your life, how to take care of yourself, how much physical exercise you really need and all that stuff is the knowledge that is just there – it’s not a secret, and that’s what I loved about being here.
“It wasn’t like you guys weren’t holding back on what the real tool was – it was like, ‘here’s all the knowledge in the world take it, use it, share it.’”
Now Brooke feels set for life. The difference this time is that she has the knowledge and the skills to carry on this journey alone.
