36-year-old David was creeping towards the dreaded ‘dad bod’ – but he couldn’t understand why.

What motivated you to start your own personal training plan with U.P.?
I had been training for a long time, and I was getting frustrated that I wasn’t seeing the results I wanted, despite the fact I was exercising quite often. I struggled to stay consistent with my training plan, so decided to sign up with U.P.
How was your body making you feel before you started working with your trainer?
I felt like I was stuck in a rut and in danger of heading towards the ‘dad bod’ territory. I didn’t feel like I was getting any of the benefits from my own training program. I couldn’t see any changes that I was happy with in the mirror.
How has your life improved since you partnered with U.P.?
Firstly, I’m a lot happier when I look in the mirror. Secondly, family and friends have told me I look younger, which makes me concerned about how I looked before, but it’s a lovely compliment to receive.
I also feel like I have much more knowledge about training and nutrition, which I’ll carry with me long into the future. I’ve had to replace a lot of the clothes in my wardrobe, which is great. I feel confident in my clothes and can wear things I haven’t worn in years.
My energy levels have also improved because of my diet and the foods I’m eating throughout the day.
How different was your personal trainer to any you have worked with in the past?
It’s fair to say that I couldn’t have done this without my trainer. He was totally invested in my progress and pushed me hard, whether that was an arm around my shoulder or a kick up the backside.
I found the quality of the trainers U.P. exceptional. I’ve trained with good trainers before, but everyone at U.P. is on another level, in terms of their care and the amount of time that they spend with you. The environment is great too, everything is designed to make the process as straightforward as possible. The gym, the training and the supplements were all excellent.
I also found the U.P. app incredibly helpful. It creates an ecosystem where you can track your progress, see your results and understand where you need to make improvements.
How has improving your health helped you as a parent?
As a parent, it was important to me that this journey didn’t get in the way of my family life. I was previously trying to squeeze in gym sessions at weekends or in the evening, which meant I had to spend time away from my family. What I’ve been able to do at U.P. is fit my training into my existing schedule. I’ve had a lot more time with my family and I feel a lot more energetic at home, which I believe has made me a better parent.
Finally, would you recommend U.P. others?
100%. I’d absolutely recommend U.P. to other people. To be clear, it requires motivation, dedication and a willingness to put in the hard yards. But if you’ve got that, then I absolutely would recommend it. I’ve certainly seen the payback from that investment.
