Gavin was all-too aware that time was running out to get in shape and improve his health.

His dad had sadly died of a heart attack and his mother suffered from diabetes.

Now 44, Gavin feared if he didn’t invest in his health now, he was heading down the same path as his parents.

Commercial gyms did nothing to help him change things, so he put his health in the hands of a personal trainer at Ultimate Performance.

Together, Gavin and a trainer created a personal training and diet plan that helped him lose 48.4kg (107lbs) and transform his health and fitness.

Gavin had been thinking about improving his health for a while.

But his sedentary lifestyle at work and at home was holding him back from making the fundamental changes he knew he needed.“Before I joined U.P., I had tried a few personal training gyms. My work life is pretty sedentary, and as a result, I gained a lot of weight, and I was not really happy.

“But despite all the training I had, I didn’t really see any positive change.

“My parents had serious medical problems such as diabetes and hypertension, so I didn’t want myself to get any of that. I wanted a transformation, a healthy body that could help me stay in shape.

“My biggest fear of being out of shape at that time was the potential health problems and also the low self-esteem that I had.”

Gavin took the plunge and committed himself to a body transformation programme at U.P.

“My first day at U.P. was rather embarrassing, honestly.

“I couldn’t do the exercises properly, but I was surrounded by people who wanted me to do my best so that zeal was really infectious.

“While training at U.P., one of the main struggles I faced was the pendulum machine and staying on top of the tracking. But I’m in a better place than where I was at the very beginning of this process.”

Training hasn’t just reshaped his body, it has transformed his mind too – bringing out qualities of determination, motivation and drive he never knew he had in him.

“The training here has affected the other aspects of my life as well. I’m able to apply focus, and I have a bit more determination in things now. In terms of nutrition, now I make better decisions about what I eat than I did at the beginning.

“When lockdown happened, I had to go in for the lockdown programme, which was great and it did help me to keep the progress going. I started running to ensure that I wasn’t being a sedentary person and to achieve the number of steps since I was no longer commuting to and from the office, so I didn’t want to become the potato version of myself again.

“Now I feel like going more and more to the gym, and on days when I don’t, I feel like my mood is not right.”

What the whole body transformation experience has taught Gavin is the importance of consistency and just ticking off the small healthy habits every day which add up to some significant results.
