With his first grandchild on the way, Matt has laid the foundations for long-term health and become an incredible role model for his family.
“I went from extra-large tops to small in a matter of months!
“I made my 20-year daughter proud of her dad; when she saw the before and after results, she shared them on her social media pages.
“To make your kid that proud would make a grown man cry, so for that reason alone, I have never felt happier.”
What Matt has achieved is nothing short of remarkable – and he proved you don’t have to be fit to start, you just have to start.
In 25 weeks he has brought his weight down by 20kg to a healthy level and dramatically cut the dangerous visceral fat around his belly that is linked to so many life-shortening health conditions.
“The first time I went to U.P. and took off my top, I felt very bad due to the big weird tummy. Also mentally it affects you because you can’t do things that you used to do; you’re afraid to go to the beach; you have no confidence in yourself, and you can see your health declining.
“I was so unfit that every time I had to walk someplace, I was out of breath. Mentally it affected me as I wasn’t sleeping. I was tired all the time and lacked the energy to do anything. This left me feeling down and depressed.”
Matt’s weight had crept up over the years and was a direct result of his unhealthy eating habits and a lifestyle lacking in regular exercise.
Having a skilled personal trainer set out a precise nutrition plan for him really turned his damaging eating habits upside down,
It quickly helped him to clean up his act.
“I often only ate one meal a day, but it would be a pizza or a takeaway, and I had four or five bars of chocolate every day. Every weekend would be 12 to 15 pints of beer and two or three weeknights I would have five to six pints. I never had breakfast!”
“When I started the diet, I was struggling with calorie counting as I had to eat three meals a day. Going from eating one large unhealthy meal to three good meals left me feeling full all the time.
“My lifestyle changed big time! I barely did 2,000 steps a day before U.P. and had never seen the inside of a gym (I have had memberships for over eight years but just never ended up going).
“Working out with U.P. three days a week and tracking my steps made me feel happy from the start as I could see the weekly difference almost instantly.”
Despite being new to training and healthy eating, Matt managed to keep himself motivated through the programme.
U.P.’s wall of transformations kept him glued to the gym.
But it was the news that he would soon become a grandad that really lit a fire in him to get as fit, strong and healthy as possible.
“It started as a joke. When my daughter announced that I was going to be a grandad halfway through the transformation, I said I am going to have the best grandad body. I don’t know what a ‘grandad body’ looked like so I just put the mould out there for everyone.”
Matt is astonished by how dramatically his life and his health has changed following the U.P. programme.
“The transformation has changed my life for the best. The biggest benefits I believe are having more confidence in yourself, being able to sleep at night and mentally feeling happier in yourself.
“I can now control how I look with only a couple of days in the gym and the right diet. Going forward, my plans are to keep it up and if anything improves. One of the main things I have learned from this is your body is like a car if you maintain it and look after it, it works better and for longer and looks better.”
