Rob joined U.P. looking for a complete transformation – his weight was 88kg and his body fat levels were hovering around the unhealthy 30% mark.
But U.P.’s results-focussed and holistic programme saw him losing weight from the very first week.
By the time he was finished, he had dropped to a lean and healthy 69kg and had an impressive physique to show for his hard work.
At the start of his U.P. journey, Rob was more than just overweight, he felt depressed about his inability to get fit and completely overwhelmed by the lack of progress with his DIY fitness efforts.
“I genuinely believe that if you’re not right physically, then you’re not right mentally and so if you’re unhappy with how you look and how you feel, I think it starts to affect your mental health, and you end up kind of tired or demotivated.
“I run my own business, so if you’re not motivated and disciplined, then you’re not going to achieve what you want professionally.
“I have always tried to prioritise fitness and staying in shape. The job that I do is very public-facing, so my image and how I look has always been important to me. It had become something that I had completely lost control of, and I realised that it was something that I couldn’t do on my own.”

The start was a bit rocky; Rob had never had personal training before and quickly realised that most of his gym techniques were wrong.
But he was a willing student and put himself unreservedly in the hands of his trainer, Dan.
“The first week was as fun as it was difficult. There was a lot of stuff to get to terms with such as how much you can eat and tracking what you’re eating, what we were physically doing in the gym, as well as what I was doing outside of those sessions.”
“I was worried about fitting the U.P. diet into my busy work life. I travel quite a bit or do very long days, and so I was quite daunted as to how that might affect my general progress.
“Luckily, my trainer, talked me through everything and not only gave me all kinds of tools and tricks and techniques to get through those kinds of days, but was always on hand to answer any questions.
“I felt that I was getting contact on a near-daily basis. If I had a question at any time of night, I was able to ask and get an immediate response. I never felt that this was something that I was doing on my own; it was a project with my trainer.”
Of course, his internal motivator kicked in as soon as the results began appearing in the mirror. Rob saw his fat melting away within weeks, and suddenly the goals of the programme seemed achievable.
“Within two weeks, I lost a fair bit of weight that I could see, and the number on the scale started to drop very quickly. That gives you a huge boost mentally.
“Cutting out all the bad food gave me a real boost in mood and even in productivity. By the time I started to hit five or six weeks people were already noticing changes in me, and I just felt huge overwhelming positivity about what I was doing and what I could achieve by the end of it.”
Very quickly this new lifestyle became a habit and all the positive changes he was making snowballed into a spectacular result.
“The great thing about doing a transformation process is that stuff starts to become second nature. You’re not changing your body, you’re changing your whole mindset, your whole lifestyle to the point that it feels like things are never going to be the same again.
“U.P. has had life-changing benefits not only for me but I also for my family. Mentally it’s been huge; I can’t believe how productive I am; how much happier I am.
“Eating well and being in good shape really supports every other goal you have in your life so it’s so important and I really didn’t get that before I started here.”
